Silja Alitalo – Artist
I am Silja Alitalo (b.1987), a self-taught contemporary artist from Pori, Finland. Art has been an integral part of my identity and work since I was a little girl.
During my youth, I attended a visual arts-focused school and earned a diploma in visual arts during high school. Later, life led me to the field of goldsmithing, where I graduated as a goldsmith artisan. I worked in this field for over 15 years, deepening my appreciation for craftsmanship and creative expression.
In my art, my aim is to highlight multidimensionality, which not only challenges traditional artistic boundaries but also invites the viewer to experience the diversity of the artwork. I employ various materials and textures in my pieces, reflecting the diversity of nature.
I seek to evoke a desire to touch and physically experience the artwork in my art. Continuously, I strive to develop my techniques and create new textures, drawing inspiration from the multifaceted materials found in nature, such as the surface of water or the everlasting surfaces of stones. Each of my pieces is an invitation to explore the surface and delve into the spectrum of emotions hidden beneath its various textures.
In this way, I creatively merge texture ideas inspired by nature into my artworks, aiming to create pieces that not only look beautiful, but also feel unique to the touch.
